SummaryThe SHIPPING / RECEIVING SPECIALIST is responsible for the proper and timely handling of mail and packages of the company or organization. This individual must have excellent organizational, record keeping, and communication skills to effectively handle the mail room, shipping, and receiving responsibilities. Dexterity and the ability to work on one#apos;s feet a majority of the time is ideal for the proper disposition of the mail.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and deliver mail to appropriate recipients or to their department mailboxes
- Maintain an accurate record of incoming and outgoing mail
- Provide support in choosing and packaging promotional material
- Assist in filing and archiving documents
- Maintain adequate mailroom supplies, including typical mailing envelopes, boxes, and forms the company uses plus postage and mailing labels
- Keep current on U.S.Postal Service and mail courier rates, e.g., FedEx and UPS
- Weigh letters and packages and affix appropriate postage and shipping labels on letters and packages
- Complete shipping forms
- Record postage meter readings on a daily basis
- Ensure delivery of outgoing mails to the U.S.Postal Service or courier service, e.g., FedEx and UPS, or arrange for these agencies to pick up packages for proper handling and delivery
- Perform other data entry activities, as requested
- At least 6 months of similar experience
- Minimum of a High School diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
